By: James Poyser-USA TODAY Sports The Charlotte Bobcat’s ownership group has been on a tear over the past year, winning the NBA’s Western Conference, NBA Championship, and NBA Finals.
Now, they’re poised to make a move for the Charlotte Hornets GM job.
According to a report by the Charlotte Observer, the Bobcats have hired former Charlotte assistant GM Michael Beasley as their new GM.
The Bobcats also have retained former Charlotte head coach Nate Rapinoe, as well as former Charlotte forward Mariah Mallad, who was hired as Charlotte’s new assistant GM.
Charlotte had been looking to acquire a GM for a few weeks, but had only gotten word from Beasley that he was the one who was going to be in charge.
With a deal to acquire Beasley, the Hornets will have a solid veteran to lead the front office.
Beasley had worked under the Charlotte Head Coach Mark Gottfried and the Hornets General Manager Mark Davis before being named GM in January.
Beavers contract was one of the more lucrative deals in the NBA last year.
He is currently the head coach at St. John’s in the Big East, where the Bobcat is currently 10-6.
He was also an assistant coach with the Charlotte High School National Team for two seasons.
Beassels most notable NBA accolades include the 2011-12 Defensive Player of the Year and a 2009-10 All-Star selection with the Chicago Bulls.
The former assistant GM of Charlotte is known for being one of NBA’s best in terms of his scouting ability and ability to communicate with his players.
Mallad is a veteran of the NBA for over 10 years, and is considered one of those two greats in terms in terms as to who can translate the skills of a point guard into an NBA role.
Mallad played for both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics, earning All-Rookie honors in 2012 and 2014.
She was a two-time All-NBA First Team selection for the Boston Red Bulls and the Washington Wizards.
Mallads defensive prowess has helped her develop into one of, if not the most talented defender in the league.
Beasley has played a big role in Charlottes success over the last few years, as they have a winning record since the beginning of the 2016-17 season.
Bea has helped Charlotte win the 2015 Eastern Conference Championship and the 2016 NBA Finals, which helped him secure a second straight championship in 2019.
He has also been instrumental in Charlotte’s success during the 2017-18 NBA Playoffs, winning three of his four championships during that stretch.
The Bobcats are currently looking to improve their roster heading into next season.
With the upcoming NBA Summer League, the team will look to fill several positions with players who are looking to get paid before the NBA Draft.
The team currently has two players in the draft class of 2019, as Kristian Niang is selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 28th overall pick, and Tyshawn Taylor is taken by the Chicago Mavericks with the 44th overall selection.
As for the Hornets, the franchise is looking to make some changes at the top of their front office, as head coach Roy Williams is set to be out of the team’s lineup for the foreseeable future.
The Hornets will be looking to bring back former Bobcats player and coach Nate McInnis as their next head coach, with McInnes being the former Bobcat coach who took over the Hornets front office in 2016.
