Kenwood Mall in Louisiana will open its new location on Sunday with a $2 million renovation of the existing mall, the mall’s parent company announced Thursday.
The renovation will include a new building with about 1,100 new square feet, a new entertainment district and a new storefront, said John Fitch, president and CEO of the company.
The company expects to be open through the end of June.
The Kenwood Mohegan Sun, which opened in 1960, has been the anchor of the Mall of Louisiana for the past 10 years.
The mall is one of the country’s largest shopping centers, and the mall employs more than 2,000 people.
The new location is in the northwest part of the mall, just north of the Kenwood Lake Parkway.
The Mohegans are the largest American family-owned company in Kenwood, which is located in the town of 4,000.
The area around the mall has been known for its vibrant food scene.
A popular restaurant called the Big Green Sandwich Shop has a two-story indoor area with a view of the lake.
The restaurant is owned by the Mohegans.
The location also will have two indoor shopping centers.
It will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the new space will be home to restaurants such as the Green Burger, Big Green Burger and Red Fish Burger, Fitch said.
The $2.3 million renovation is expected to be completed in a couple of months.
Kenwood will also have a new restaurant, Red Fish, in the space next door.
Fitch noted that the Mohesons have invested $100 million in the mall in recent years, including about $50 million in renovations and $60 million in new stores, renovations and other investments.
The Mall of Baton Rouge is owned and operated by the state of Louisiana.
The town of Kenwood has been a favorite destination for visitors for decades.
It was the location of the famous “Million Dollar Movie” film, starring Tom Cruise, starring Jackie Chan and Clint Eastwood.
Kenwoods annual sales totaled about $6 billion in 2016, up from $3.4 billion in 2015.
The original Mohegs purchased the mall from its current owner in 2007.
