Roseville, California (CNN) In a few short years, Roseville’s iconic mall has evolved from an old warehouse to a sleek, high-tech shopping center.
Now, with a new, more stylish and chic shopping mall in the works, the old downtown mall has an opportunity to reclaim its former glory.
The new mall will be the centerpiece of a sprawling $2 billion development project that will include a major hotel and residential buildings.
A $300 million mixed-use complex on the site will feature a mix of retail, offices, restaurants and apartments.
It will include nearly 6,000 apartments, according to a plan released Wednesday.
The Roseville shopping center will be a new chapter in a long-running redevelopment of Rosemont, California’s downtown.
It’s one of the first developments in the county to be redeveloped with the help of the state.
The state helped the mall in many ways, said Steve Fazio, executive director of Rosevillage.
The state has given the mall a $1.4 billion redevelopment grant, the largest in California history, he said.
“We are looking forward to creating a new Roseville to be a place where everybody can go, work, play, shop, and eat,” Fazianos said.
The development comes at a time when Roseville has been struggling with an aging population and high unemployment.
The city of just more than 12,000 is experiencing a housing shortage and is experiencing severe poverty.
The city council is expected to vote on the project next month.
The Roseville city manager said the project will include retail space, restaurants, apartments, hotels and other mixed-used space.
The project includes a major parking garage that will be used by the Roseville-based hotel chain, according the city’s development director, Peter Cerrone.
The parking garage will be designed by local architecture firm Wunderlich, which has been commissioned to design a new hotel in Roseville.
The parking garage and other residential and commercial units are part of a $700 million project to build a $600 million hotel, residential tower, office tower and mixed-income housing complex on site of the former Roseville Union Terminal, which closed in 2011.
Roseville is one of two downtown districts in the state to receive state funding to build such a complex.
The hotel project has been in the planning stages for more than two years.
It is being funded by the state and private donations.
The retail development is being planned by the city.
A total of 4,500 retail space will be included in the new retail complex, said Faziano.
Roseville is the fourth-largest city in California and has about 10,000 residents.
The mall’s redevelopment will include the Rosemont shopping center, with offices, apartments and hotels.
Fazia said the retail complex will be located in the Rose Valley’s historic district.
The building will include about 600,000 square feet of retail space.
Rosemont’s main shopping district will be among the area’s main attractions.
The shopping center is scheduled to open in 2019.
The project is expected start in the fall of 2020.
The redevelopment project will take about 10 years, according Roseville Mayor John Gagliano.
Gaglianos hopes the development will revitalize Roseville and bring jobs to the city, as well as help the city deal with rising housing costs and a lack of jobs for young people.
“Roseville has always been a place of opportunity, but it’s a place that has struggled,” Gaglanos said in a news release.
“The Rosemont project will be an opportunity for us to turn that around and bring people back to Roseville.”
