A mall of the future?
That’s the question facing developers and shoppers as they try to make a mall of what’s left of the city’s former Garden Mall, which closed last year.
The $200 million project, which would include a high-end restaurant, spa and a hotel, would be built along the west side of the mall, in an area once known as the Mall of Georgia.
The building would be the city first.
There are still a lot of questions about how the project would work, how much it would cost and how it would fit into the citys future growth.
The project will be financed by the city of Holyoke, and construction is expected to start this fall.
City council will hold a public hearing on the project this week, which will take place before the end of the year.
If approved, the project could be completed in about five years, but there are still some questions about the project, like how it will be managed, and how much the city can charge.
The mall, which was built in 1871 and was once a mainstay of the downtown area, closed in April after more than a century of operations.
Holyoke Mayor Michael B. Coleman said in a statement last year that the project was still being developed and was looking for an investor, but that it was unlikely to be completed by the end or even start.
“There are still many questions about its financial viability, its capacity and its capacity to attract a new tenant to this site,” Coleman said.
“The Holyoke Mall is a jewel in the City of Holyokes crown, and we have the resources and the expertise to make this dream a reality.”
He said the council was also considering ways to preserve the historic structure, which is also home to the city park.
“I think we are working very hard to make sure the future of the property, which includes the Garden Mall and the adjacent parking lots, is preserved,” Coleman told reporters in January.
“We are very close to being able to make that happen.
The City of Grand Rapids is actively looking to acquire and preserve the land for future development.”
But with no firm plans to start building in the area in the foreseeable future, many of the questions surrounding the project are still unanswered.
How will the hotel be managed?
How will it be priced?
Will it have a hotel-type parking lot?
How much will it cost?
How long will it take to complete?
And how will the mall’s parking lot be managed after it’s done?
Holyoke’s redevelopment plan is expected in coming years, and Coleman said he expected it would take about a decade to complete.
He said that the hotel and other aspects of the project were still being finalized, and the city was not in a position to comment on the hotel or the hotel-related details.
But he did say that the city wanted to provide a “full, transparent, accurate and complete overview” of the hotel project.
The city will not be providing public comment during the public hearing, and will not release details about the hotel’s location.
What happens to the old shopping center?
A number of shopping centers were destroyed in the Great Recession, including the Mall at the Grand Mall in the 1980s.
And now, thanks to the construction of the Garden, which also reopened last year, the city has a new, more modern shopping center to replace it.
But that hasn’t kept the city from thinking about what’s next.
The Garden is the only one of the several buildings still standing on the mall site that is a mall.
It was built during the Great Depression, but the mall was largely vacant and eventually closed in the late 1990s.
The Grand Mall was the first building on the site to be torn down and redeveloped as a mall, and it was built by the Great American Mall Co. The current owners, the Greater Grand Park Alliance, acquired the mall in 2003.
The plan for the mall at the mall has not yet been finalized, but its developers, including Greater Grandpark Alliance, have said it will include a new grocery store, an upscale hotel, and offices and apartments.
The shopping center will be the largest of its kind in the United States, and its redevelopment could bring about some major changes to the neighborhood.
It could also serve as a place for the city to start exploring the possibilities of turning parts of the shopping center into a mixed-use complex.
What about the Grand Park area?
Grand Park, the northernmost part of the Grand Rapids metropolitan area, has been home to Grand Rapids City Hall for more than 60 years.
It is the oldest city in Michigan, and also the city where the Grand Prix circuit takes place.
The former Garden, known for its many shopping centers, opened in 1886.
Today, the mall remains one of Grand Park’s main attractions.
