Dublin city centre mall is in the process of closing to the public.
It was a huge hit for the city, with the mall attracting millions of visitors every year and generating almost €1 billion of tax revenue.
Now, the mall is set to close again, with a view to making way for a new mall.
What happens to the old mall?
Will it be redeveloped and used for shopping?
What about the future of the mall?
We spoke to the owner of the old Mall of Dublin, who told us that there was an urgent need for an overhaul to the mall.
The mall was sold for €2 billion in 2013, which is a very significant sum in itself.
What is the plan for the future?
We will need to look at the future and see how we can do it in a way that maximises the potential of the building.
But what will the plans look like for the new mall?
It will be the first new mall in Dublin for over 30 years.
That will be a huge step forward.
Will it have its own separate shopping centre?
The mall will be redeveloping to create a shopping centre, and there will be separate shopping areas for restaurants and other businesses, as well as for the main retail and residential areas.
We will see whether the shopping centre is a retail centre, or whether it will be open to the general public.
Where will the new shopping area be?
The existing shopping centre will continue to operate.
We are not looking at the possibility of moving the main shopping area into a retail area, but rather creating an alternative shopping area.
It will have an independent dining area, an indoor retail and a public transport hub.
What about parking?
The new mall will have three parking spaces in each of the five shopping centres, so that the mall can accommodate an average of 100 people per shopping centre.
Is it planned for residential use?
There will be parking for residential residents and businesses in the new building, with spaces available for pedestrians and cyclists.
What will happen to the buildings that were demolished to make way for the mall in the past?
There is a plan for redevelopment.
There will certainly be a residential element in the mall, but there will also be an element of public transport and an amenity centre.
Will the new development include an indoor or outdoor cafe or café?
There may be an indoor cafe or cafe.
We don’t know at this stage.
There is an amenitiy centre in the building, which will have facilities for a variety of public events.
Where is the land for the project?
There are lots of buildings that will be affected by the redevelopment, including the old Town Hall, the Mall of Connolly and the former Rialto Hotel.
We have to take into account the environmental impact.
Where do you plan to build the new location?
The site will be sold, with new developments taking place at the former Mall of Clonmel and the Rialtas Hotel.
In addition, there is a lot of vacant land that is being developed, so we will need an appropriate site.
We need to consider the future use of the site, but we also need to take care that it is not in a rush to redevelop.
Are there any changes planned for the old site?
We intend to redevelop the site and bring the new buildings into the city centre.
Are you planning to relocate the shopping centres to other areas?
Yes, but the new retail centre will be at the centre of the city.
There are plans for a major new shopping centre in Newtownabbey, for example, but this is a long way off.
The Mall of Ballybofey, at the junction of Battersea and Ballymun, is being redeveloped.
We also have a proposed new shopping complex in South Limerick called The Rial to the North.
We plan to redevelop this site.
What do you think about the development?
We welcome the change, and hope that it will bring the future prosperity and quality of life to the city of Dublin.
The new Mall is scheduled to open in 2019, with opening dates for the existing mall still to be determined.
We welcome all of the feedback and suggestions we receive from the public, as we look to deliver the best possible outcome for the community and the city at a time of crisis.
